Thornbury & District Museum

Due to the Coronavirus crisis the museum is closed to the public now, but emails will still be answered as quickly as possible. Please do not leave messages on the museum's phone as volunteers will be attending the building but will not be able to respond quickly to enquiries. Very best wishes, and stay safe, from all volunteers here.

**************

Thornbury Museum needs your assistance with a history project - please help us gather and keep the history of Coronavirus (Covid-19) 2020.

We are experiencing one of the worst times in our lives, just as people did during WW1 and WW2 because we are fighting a deadly virus.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) will become history and in classrooms children will be learning about what happened to us in 2020.

As a museum, it is our responsibility to gather, document and keep preserved for the future any aspects of this awful time with regards to Thornbury and the surrounding district.

We are hoping that those of you who are willing and able to do so, would be interested in keeping notes or a diary, photos, of any/ all that you or your friends and family experience, good and bad, during this time relating to shopping, medical, travelling, communication, entertaining and schooling at home, working, etc. We would like to hear about anything, no matter how insignificant you may think it is.

You can send us information at any time, or you may prefer to wait until this episode in our history has passed.

Send it by email or post to Thornbury & District Museum, c/o The Town Hall, 35 High Street, Thornbury BS35 2AR.

By submitting information, the museum will assume that your permission is given for the material to be used in the future. This could be in print, on-line or in one of our exhibitions.

*******************

The museum was started in 1986 to house a collection of artefacts bequeathed to The Thornbury Society, and rapidly expanded. It is managed by the Thornbury & District Heritage Trust, a registered charity as well as a Trust company, and is supported by South Gloucestershire Council and Thornbury Town Council. It is an independent museum and financed by grants and donations. Come to visit our exhibition rooms, chat to our volunteers, visit our shop, enjoy your local museum.
The museum is next to the Armstrong Hall, and opening times are Tuesday to Friday 1-4pm, and Saturday 10-4pm. We have a small shop with books, leaflets, pamphlets, postcards, all of local interest.
