Could you bring the magic of reading to a child in South Gloucestershire?
Beanstalk is a national literacy charity that transforms children’s life chances by recruiting and supporting volunteers and placing them in local primary schools. These volunteers work with children who have either fallen behind with their reading, lack confidence, or struggle with their fluency, comprehension or vocabulary.
The charity is searching for more members of the community in South Gloucestershire who can spare a few hours a week supporting children in local primary schools. As a Beanstalk reading helper in a local school you will work with three children at a local primary school and spend 30 minutes with each child twice a week, during term-time, for at least one academic year.

PHASE are looking for a volunteer to assist with Book Keeping.
PHASE is a Community Interest Company which supports secondary aged children in Thornbury and the surrounding area. The organisation has been set up in response to a rise in antisocial / risky behaviour and poor mental health in the young people in our town. This has coincided with the education cuts and the local schools no longer having the capacity / funding to offer support interventions or the level of pastoral care that is needed. Teenagers in general are getting a very bad name and we are keen to change this and enable them to feel welcome and included in our community.
PHASE is all about empowering young people to believe in themselves, make good choices and raise their aspirations. We are also working on a support programme for parents/carers of secondary age children with behaviour, social or emotional difficulties.
We are ideally looking for someone with experience in book keeping and familiarity with the workings of a Community Interest Company, however, we would love to hear from anyone interested.
Have your got spare time on your hands? Want to help in the local community? Then become a volunteer driver/leaflet distributor.
We provide transport to those members of the community who, for whatever reason, cannot use existing transport services.

We provide a lifeboat search-and-rescue service on the Severn Estuary between Gloucester and the Severn Bridges – one of the most challenging waterways in the UK. We need a volunteer fundraising crew who can give some of their weekend time, working alongside the operational lifeboat crew to collect the essential donations that keep the lifeboat station running.
If you are 18+, enthusiastic, willing to tell our story to the public – and able to give at least 20 hours a year of your time, then this volunteering opportunity could be just right for you.
In return, we will introduce you to the work we do, give you occasional opportunity to go out on one of the lifeboats, give you a uniform, and involve you in the life of the lifeboat station. Suitable volunteers may also be able to progress to full operational crew in the future.
Please contact Hugh Inwood for more information about this role, or click on the link below to apply.
