Hazel Coppicing Course

Horwood Farm, Wickwar

Join us to learn this traditional method of woodland management in an intensive one day course.

Hazel coppicing is where trees are periodically cut down to ground level allowing them to regrow from the base. This practice encourages growth of smaller stem or ‘copses’ from the stump.

The cycle of cutting and regrowth helps maintain a healthy ecosystem, as it creates a diverse habitat for wildlife and allows light to reach the woodland floor, which in turn enourages biodiversity and improving soil quality.

This sustainable method of management provides materials such as firewood, thatching spars, stakes and binders for hedge laying and even making tools, baskets, fences, bean poles and walking sticks.

The day will start at 9:30 and end around 3, there will be parking at the farm and more details about this will be sent before the training.
