The Queen’s Jewels - End of Season Weekend

Acton Court, Iron Acton

28 & 29 June 2025: Visit Acton Court for the end of season weekend ‘The Queen’s Jewels’.

This year’s special guests are listed below. Appearing on both days are:

The Enchanted Tudor Rose
Jenny of ‘The Enchanted Tudor Rose’ will display and talk about her replica jewellery designed for the TV series ‘Wolf Hall’. She will bring examples of her work and demonstrate how she makes it.

Tudor Dressing with Lady Samantha
Lady Samantha performs a dressing up and a dressing down of a Tudor Lady. Once dressed, Lady Samantha and her Queens will lead visitors in some simple dance as performed in Tudor times.

The Merchant’s House Musicians
The Merchant’s House Musicians will be providing traditional Tudor music on replica period instruments, including pipe and tabor, recorders of various sizes, gems horn, crumhorn, drums and percussion. Mary and Richard are happy to talk about their music and instruments during the day.

Art at Acton Court
Participate in an art activity based on Acton Court graffiti.

Thomas Cromwell
Thomas Cromwell, the King's formidable Principal Secretary, was at the height of his power in summer 1535 when he joined the Royal Progress. Discover the pivotal changes in religion and politics as Cromwell evaluates the loyalties and practices of the land. Thomas Cromwell is played by Chris Rew of the Tudor Players.

Waytes and Measures
Waytes and Measures, a group of singers and musicians based in northern Gloucestershire, will be playing and singing music from Medieval times up to the mid 16th Century. They play a variety of instruments: gittern, pipe and tabor, recorders, shawms, medieval fiddle, hurdy-gurdy, portative organ and percussion.
