Calendar Girls

Rangeworthy Village Hall

Collaborative Productions, a new amateur group of local thespians, are very excited to be putting on four performances of the play CALENDAR GIRLS at Rangeworthy Village Hall from 21 – 23 September 2023.

This is a charity event raising funds for BUST (Breast Cancer Unit Support Trust) supporting the Bristol Breast Care Centre at Southmead Hospital, and Blood Cancer UK.

The play is based on the inspiring true story of eleven WI members who persuaded one another to pose for a charity calendar with a difference to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund.

When Annie’s husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital relatives’ room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose for an ‘alternative’ calendar with a difference, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. Overcoming their initial reserve the friends drop their dressing gowns, their modesty spared only by cleverly placed cakes, knitting, flower arrangements, etc.

Riding the wrath of the WI, they spark a global phenomenon as news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press descend on the village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a huge success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.

Calendar Girls is a funny, charming and touching tribute to the fundraising efforts of a group of extraordinary women.

Suitable for those over 16, there are three evening performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets at £12 and £10 (concessions) are available now, either online via the link below or by TicketSource phone line 0333 666 3366 (for additional £2 fee plus regular 7% booking fee). Online group bookings of 10+ get one free ticket. Walk-in cash bookings are also available at the Rose & Crown in Rangeworthy.

There are only 140 seats for each performance and tickets are likely to be snapped up, such is the popularity of this play. If you’ve not yet seen a professional or amateur production of CALENDAR GIRLS, or just want to see it again and re-live that wonderful experience, here is your chance.
