Snowdrop Visitor Day
Tortworth Arboretum
10am-3pm
Discover the Snowdrop Season at Tortworth Arboretum.
Join us for a self-guided walk through the serene Dell of Tortworth Arboretum. This month, we’re celebrating the breathtaking beauty of snowdrops as they blanket the arboretum’s forest floor.
We invite you to savour the peace of this tranquil space, whether you choose to follow marked trails on our map or venture off the beaten path to create your own journey.
This ancient woodland, once overtaken by bramble and bracken, has been carefully restored since 2014 by a dedicated team of volunteers. Their efforts have uncovered an old arena and steps once used by donkeys to transport produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house, as well as a stunning collection of over 600 native, exotic, and veteran trees.
As the ground was cleared, we were rewarded with carpets of seasonal blooms, including snowdrops and bluebells.
The work now focuses on replanting and maintaining the arboretum. Volunteers have created pathways, cleared around trees and plants to help them thrive, and improved labelling and signage. Some areas remain delightfully wild, a feature we aim to preserve as it’s part of the arboretum’s unique charm and benefits local wildlife.
After your walk, or whenever you need a break, follow the inviting scent of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse, where a warm drink awaits.
Reconnect with yourself, with loved ones, and with nature. Book your ticket today!
Directions: Please head to GL12 8HH on sat nav, towards the Tortworth Court Hotel. As you turn on to the driveway to the hotel, after a couple of passing places you will come to a green metal gate set back on the right hand side just before a stone building. Turn into this gate and park up.
