Teas in the Garden - Celebrating 20 Years of CLinC
2-5pm in the garden of Orchard House, Talbot End
Free entry, all welcome to enjoy garden games, cream teas and a raffle. Cromhall Village Hall has been booked in case of wet weather.
It seems hard to believe that it is 20 years since five members of St Andrew’s Church congregation, Doug, Peggy, Sue, Roy and myself, visited Zambia with the intention of setting up a church link.
Sadly, this never happened due to poor communications at that time.
During our stay we attended services and gatherings on house verandahs and in self-built grass shelters. We visited schools and a rural health clinic and were greatly affected by the poverty we saw.
On our return we decided that we would like to make a positive change to the lives of some of these people. To enable us to do this, the charity ‘Changing Lives in Chongwe District’ was set up.
Although we began by helping in the schools and a clinic in Chongwe, we soon realized that poverty was even greater in the townships around Lusaka.
Due to a lack of money and school places, large numbers of children were unable to receive an education. Therefore, in 2009 we helped with the setting up of St Mark’s and St Anne’s Community schools in two churches there.
We now support four schools and most of you will know the rest of the story.
Thank you all for your support over the years. Without you, we could not have done it!
On Saturday, August 3rd, we are holding a ‘Teas in the Garden’ event to celebrate 20 successful years. I hope many of you will be able to come and celebrate with us. You are welcome to bring a friend or neighbour with you.
Thanks again,
Ann, on behalf of trustees
