Book in for your health MOT on National Fitness Day

Active Centres across the South Gloucestershire area are offering free classes and ‘fitness MOT’ sessions as part of National Fitness Day on Wednesday 27th September.

A variety of classes - including circuits, studio cycling and HIIT training - will be available to both members and non-members, with members also encouraged to bring a friend to their local centre to use the gym for free.

The centres are in Bradley Stoke, Kingswood, Longwell Green, Thornbury and Yate.

Any visitors to the Kingswood Active Centre on Wednesday will also have the opportunity to win a prize. If participants can complete five minutes at any speed and level on the rowing machine, they’ll be entered into a draw for the chance to win a month’s free membership, with other prizes offered to runners up.

The health assessments that will be offered in centres have been compared to the MOT that cars undergo annually - providing people with an insight into the fine details of their health, including: weight, body fat percentage, hydration levels, visceral fat, BMI and blood pressure.

While many will be aware of their weight or blood pressure, many of the tests will provide results for lesser known health signals.

For example, visceral fat is the body fat that’s stored in your abdominal cavity. Carrying an excess of fat in this area can place you at greater risk of chronic diseases, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.

The human body relies on water to survive as it helps every cell, tissue, and organ to work properly. Being dehydrated can not only affect your energy levels and strength, but also your ability to maintain your temperature and remove waste.

Jim Rollo, Healthy Lifestyle Manager for the Active Centres, said: “The key objective for Active Centres is to inspire active lifestyles in as many people as possible and maximise participation.

National Fitness Day presented a great opportunity for us to promote health and wellbeing for both members and non-members within the area, letting them try out some new exercise classes for free in the hope that they find something they really love.”

If people join us on a lifestyle membership on Wednesday 27th September they can claim a FREE activation worth up to £36 by quoting promo code GETMEFIT17.
